Staying at the Renaissance Spa and Resort (A luxury lifestyle hotel by Marriott) was one of the highlights of my trip to Sanya, which lies on the southernmost tip of Hainan island in China.
Experiencing the resort was a big part of my relaxed resort getaway in Sanya, which is literally why hoards of tourists head to this ultimate beach destination of China. As we all know, China is not very popular as a beach locale so when you see white sands, palm trees, wide roads and modern architecture, you know it is as good as it gets here.

Reasons to Choose Renaissance Spa & Resort in Sanya
Clean Private Beach
I only realized how clean and wonderful our resort’s private white sand beach was, when I actually walked along the beach stretch to check out other areas. Walking along the beach wasn’t a lot of fun (Apart from our private stretch) as the beach was full of dead jellyfish, seaweed and other fish – all natural clutters of the sea but it made walking a tad difficult. We also had lovely beach beds and it wasn’t busy at all, making for a great open air tanning salon. However, going in the water was a big no no due to jellyfish warnings.
Renaissance Sanya Spa & Resort is nestled in the scenic Haitang Bay. I read that Yalong bay was the no 1 bay in the world but trust me it was far from it. It was busy and flocked with local & Russian tourists. The beaches were packed and so were the resort pools and dining areas. I realized we were so lucky to be staying far away from the chaos of Yalong and I would highly recommend you to stay in Haitang if you plan to visit Sanya.
The hotel has a great location, away from the maddening crowds and yet just a kilometer away from basic amenities like – local restaurants and supermarkets. At some point, you might feel ‘cut off’ from the world but trust me, it’s just what the doctor ordered.
Comfortable and Spacious Rooms
Mine was a double bed spacious room which had a lovely en-suite washroom with a bathtub. Coffee & tea makers, ipod docks and flat screen tv’s with a lovely lounge style veranda overlooking the pool, were the highlights of rooms at Renaissance.
I was also pleasantly surprised with a new fun towel animal in my room every day.
Sprawling Swimming Pools
Renaissance boosts of three mammoth pool areas. The best part of the pool for me was where they had beach beds ‘inside’ the pool. So you will be ankle deep in water every time you get onto your bed – how cool is that? Apart from that the sheer size of the pools made me want to spend the entire day by the pool. You can say it was my favorite place in the hotel.
Excellent Lobby Area
Entering the lobby used to be the favorite part of my way. The super high ceiling would make it airy and the pool/ocean views were amazing. The hotel lobby has lovely high backed chairs and comfortable lounge sofas for chilling.
Great Buffet Breakfast
I had their buffet breakfast all 6 days and simply loved it. From all sorts of cold cuts, fresh eggs, dimsums as well as hot Chinese and international cuisine, there was no dearth of options to choose from.
Guests can use the lovely health fitness center or choose to do Yoga every morning. The hotel even offers weekly yoga classes and you can rent out bikes or jog around at pre-designated routes.
Hotel had an array of other perks for guests like – Live music, free shuttle bus to airport or downtown, 7 in-house dining & drinking options, ipod docks, coffee maker and bathtubs in every room, VPN ready free WiFi and so much more.
On the whole, I would rate it 8/10 and highly recommend it as your ultimate stop for that ideal resort getaway in Sanya.
Disclaimer – I was a guest of Sanya tourism board, however, I choose to write about my lovely hotel stay at Renaissance simply because it was so epic!
