Citadines Uplands Kuching – Your Home Away from Home

After two weeks of volunteer work with Project Orangutan via the MonkeeBar, I was ready for some luxury and pampering. As soon as I stepped into my apartment at Citadines Uplands Kuching, I knew it was the perfect homely, yet lavish, atmosphere I needed for the next few days before I continued my travels around Malaysia.

I saw the spacious apartment with kitchen, two bedrooms (mine had a desk), huge living room and two washrooms and I had to do a little happy dance. I simply dumped my backpack and did a live video on Facebook so you all could also see what I am fussing all over.

As you can see from the video, this apartment is fully furnished with everything you can imagine/need to live comfortably.

Comfortable Beds – Beds in both the master bedroom and the adjoining room were super comfy and I absolutely adored these cute teddy bears, which gave a lovely and welcoming touch.

Kitchen – My parents were soon to join me in my sojourns and since my mom loves cooking, having a kitchenette and proper homely environment put them right in their comfort zone since Day 1. This is extremely important, you will see if you ever travel with your folks – a home away from home most certainly helps with the initial apprehensions of visiting a new country.

Oh and I can cook too 🙂

Washing Machine – Drawback of traveling for long term is doing your laundry. There was a nice washing machine in the kitchen which I tried too and it came fitted with an in-built drier and my clothes came out soft and 90% dry – woot woot! An easier alternative is to simply buy launder-mat coupons at the reception and let experts handle your dirty laundry.

Cafeteria – If you are not much of a cook, the cafeteria in the lobby has an amazing take away menu. All you need to do is call them to place an order, they will call you back once its ready. You go down to the lobby , pay and pick up your grub – pretty easy, eh? I tried this service twice and it was smooth sailing throughout.

Buffet – Breakfast is complimentary and comes with the room. Their spread is not huge but it covers everything you might need from bread, sausages, eggs, local cuisine and fruits.

Round 1 🙂

Location – The best part hands down is the location. With close proximity to one of the largest malls of Sarawak – The Spring Shopping Mall, every thing you might need was just a bridge walk away (Yes, there is a connecting bridge from the building Citadines is located in, to Spring mall).

We made several trips to Spring shopping mall for basics like SIM card, medicines, groceries, money change and the likes – convenience is surely the key here. It was also super easy to book Uber or Grab and hop into the cab to visit any spot in Kuching easily and in comfort. Need I add the cabs are super cheap and reliable here!

In-House Gym and Swimming Pool – A swimming pool is usually the first thing I check before booking a hotel so it also happens to be the first thing I check out after I check-in. I loved the pool and especially the lovely lounge area around it. The tanning chairs were comfortable and matched the decor of the area well.

Gym was standard with all required equipment and was frequented by in-house guests (Especially important for those on a long stay).

Another thing I simply could not get over was the view from the bedroom and living room wall to wall glass windows. You could see the sun rising over the quaint town of Kuching or enjoy a sultry sunset with a glass of wine, from the comfort of your living room – It was simply breathtaking.
