20 Travel Essentials we Often Miss

No matter how well traveled you are, it is almost certain that you are going to leave behind something or the other while packing your stuff. There can be no bigger pain than landing in a new country, only to discover an important item you have left behind. Then there is the added trouble of running around in an alien territory, looking for the things you missed in all the excitement and rush. To safeguard against such annoyances, it is better to keep a check list of the most frequently forgotten holiday essentials.

Here is a list of twenty items you cannot travel without –

1) First aid box

This survival box contains waterproof portable essentials and equipment for any medical emergency. This small and lightweight kit can fit anywhere in your bag and is easy to carry. This set of folding toothbrushes is ideal for travel, because once you are out of home, the toothbrush does not get dried properly. This causes the bristles to become unhygienic, a problem which is easily overcome by folding the brush head to keep it clean and dry.

3) Travel pillow

The travel pillow is not only comfortable, but provides adequate support for your chin as well as the neck, while at the same time giving proper cushion to the sides. With improved designs available these days, a travel pillow actually allows a person to sleep on the cramped planes and buses.

Here are my favorite options for travel pillows.

4) Travel adapter

This is one item which is left out inadvertently from the packing list the most number of times. If your hotel has a spare one, you might get lucky, but that is seldom the case. Going out to a buy one will be next to impossible, especially if the voltage is not suitable for that country. It is best to carry a multi purpose adapter which can operate anywhere.

Compression socks and water bottle are so often missed. The socks really help during long flights and activities like hiking.

  • I really need to get some compression socks. I never had a problem in the past, but on my last trip to Hong Kong I definitely needed it! I don’t know if it’s part of aging, but I never thought it was necessary until now 🙂

    • Aging? you gotta be kidding me, you girls look fit as fiddles – got nothing to worry about there 🙂

  • Ivy

Compression socks sound awesome! I’ll have to look into that. I’ve been wanting to get a dual voltage curling iron for a while too- gotta have those lucious for those IG-perfect shots lol

  • TalesOfABackpacker

Great list! I never go anywhere without my earplugs, I’m a very light sleeper 🙂 As well as a foldable water bottle I also have a water bottle with a built-in filter as I often go places where you can’t drink the tap water, its a total lifesaver!

  • ah! I didn’t even think about clothesline pins! That is genius! I always pack a water bottle with me to fill up because I hate paying a zillion dollars for water in tourist-y areas!

  • Megan Claire

Totally agree with you on the first aid kit – something so important, and even a simple kit could help us when we’re out of reach of help if something goes wrong. I think travelers severly under estimate the importance of traveling with one

    • I know, I often just carry a pack of painkillers and anti nausea pills – that’s it!

  • JM

Well i totally agree with this list since i only checked 3 out of 20. Too bad that i am not that prepared when travelling. Good to know all of these.

  • Nicki McLaren

Surprisingly, I only travel with a few of these things. I need to up my game!

  • Svetoslav Dimitrov

Great list, Jo! Thanks for sharing it with us. My musts are at least two toothbrushes – one in my carry-on and one in my big luggage.

Can I wear the women’s bra? I have somewhat of breasts from working out :)))

  • Paige Brown

Great list! I’ve never thought of a couple of these things like the mini curling iron and folding toothbrush! I’m going to have to check out some of these new options! Thanks for sharing.

    • Yeah I am always just carrying the basics really and end up shopping later lol
