When in Johannesburg, my parents and I, found ourselves craving for some Italian delicacies. I began browsing for options in town and was rewarded with plenty. Finally, keeping our choice of cuisine in mind, we zeroed in on Tony’s Spaghetti Grill, which was highly recommended by locals and travelers alike.
Our appetizing experience at Tony’s Spaghetti Grill
As soon as we entered Tony’s, we were welcomed by the manager in charge – Hans. He was sweet, friendly and extremely polite. Instantly, I knew we made the right decision by choosing Tony’s for our late afternoon gastronomical session.
The restaurant has ample outdoor, indoor as well as upstairs seating. From what I heard and read, it gets quite busy during lunch hours and on weekends. I would advice to make a reservation beforehand to avoid waiting for long.
We were seated at a table by the window and were informed that Alfred would be our server. After looking through the vast menu, our mouths started watering and we were spoilt for choice. Alfred patiently and enthusiastically educated us on a few dishes; he informed us of commonly underused ingredients so that we were well aware of what to expect.
After a few rounds of discussion, we chose Macaroni Cheese, Pollo Zucchini Pasta & Pollo alla Diavola as our main course along with Caste Light (which was my choice of beer throughout my South African sojourns).
Everything was presented in a appetizing manner. I could not wait to dig into the delectable fare and as soon as I had the first bite of my ambrosial Zucchini Pasta, I was floored. The pasta was seasoned to perfection making it a toothsome delight.
Pollo alla Diavola was perhaps the most elegant dish on the table and tasted just as good. Macaroni Cheese was just average though. So, I would highly recommend trying out the pastas at Tony’s if you make your way to this classy joint for a bite.
As we were finishing our food, I had the honor to meet the restaurants’ other manager Wallyd. He was just as friendly as Hans and explained a bit about the history of the place while recommending things to do around Jo’burg.
All in all, we were really impressed by the hospitality, food quality and the overall pleasing decor of Tony’s spaghetti grill. If you are in Johannesburg and looking to tantalize your taste buds, then head to Tony’s without giving it a second thought.
